Photo of colorful Gouldian Finch (Erythrura gouldiae)

The Gouldian Finch, also known as Rainbow Finch, Gould’s Finch, Lady Gouldian Finch and among scientists as Erythrura gouldiae or Chloebia gouldiae is a very colorful bird from Australia. They develop their colorful feathering in their adult stage, while the juveniles have mostly gray and olive green feathers. The Finch shown in this photo is a male, for the females have a lighter mauve chest color.
